Eline De Clercq has been working since 2019 on Gesamthof, a lesbian garden in which she connects botanical knowledge with intersectional themes such as decolonialism, queerness, ecofeminism and climate change. She opts for an inclusive "lesbian" understanding: inclusive of trans people and non-binary people, and she views it ecologically: more-than-human-lesbian like the plant communities of mosses, matriarchal bees and women's communities of water fleas. Her practice includes gardening as well as painting, drawing, writing, photography, self-publishing, critical reading of European art history and more.
The garden tour will take about 45 minutes with 15 minutes for questions at the end. The tour will focus on how ecology is a majority of minorities, a system of ongoing change and diversity. We will talk about plant blindness - a condition people have when then don’t recognise plants - and the invisible nature of many plants. Special care is given to the topics of gender, sexuality and communities.
🚪Entrance via Extra City Kunsthal, all the way to the back (Provinciestraat 112, 2018 Antwerpen (5 minutes walking from the Central station))
